De ezek a rendezvények hamar felismertették az emberekkel, hogy az autóversenyzés tömegek szórakoztatására is alkalmas, és mindemellett jó marketingszempontokból is, ezért hamar útnak indult az autósport fejlődése.</span></p><p style="font-family:nerislight;color:#48484a;font-size:16px;line-height:20px;text-align:left;margin-bottom:19px;display:block;"><span style="color:#48484a;display:block;font-family:nerislight;font-size:16px;line-height:20px;margin-bottom:19px;text-align:left;">Mára már az autóversenyzésnek számtalan változatát ismerjük. Vannak amatőr és profi, rövid- vagy hosszútávú versenyek, murvás vagy aszfalton zajlók, épített versenypályán vagy lezárt közúton megrendezettek. Egyszóval rengeteg szakág van, még több alágazattal, de ami mindig közös volt bennük: az izgalom, a gyorsaság és a veszély.</span></p><p style="font-family:nerislight;color:#48484a;font-size:16px;line-height:20px;text-align:left;margin-bottom:19px;display:block;"><span style="color:#48484a;display:block;font-family:nerislight;font-size:16px;line-height:20px;margin-bottom:19px;text-align:left;">Ilyen sok ágazat révén nem merülnék bele mindegyik bemutatásába, inkább kiemelném néhány kedvencet. Kezdeném a sort a B-csoportos rallyval, amely a szakág nagyon rövid, de ikonikus korszaka volt. Enyhe szabályrendszerével olyan autószörnyeket teremtett, mint például a Lancia Delta S4, Fiat 131 Abarth, Ford Escort RS1700T vagy az Audi Ur Quattro. A B-csoport létrejötte előtt körülbelül 250 lóerős, hátsókerekes autók versenyeztek, de a csoport létrehozásával engedélyezték az összkerékhajtást, és enyhe szabályok vonatkoztak a súly és lóerő arányára is, így születhettek négy-hatszáz lóerős, egy tonna alatti összsúlyú autók, egyesek esetében összkerékhajtással is. Ezekről a gépekről a versenyzők maguk is azt nyilatkozták, hogy embert próbáló feladat a vezetésük, és nagy alázattal kell feléjük fordulni. Ezt tetőzendő több olyan belső kamerás felvétel maradt fenn az autókból, ahogyan a nézők az úton állva várták a feléjük száguldó autókat, és csak az utolsó pillanatban ugranak félre előlük. A B-csoport mindössze néhány évet élt meg, 1882-ban született és 1886-ban tiltották be a veszélyességé és a halálesetek miatt.</span></p><p style="font-family:nerislight;color:#48484a;font-size:16px;line-height:20px;text-align:left;margin-bottom:19px;display:block;"><span style="color:#48484a;display:block;font-family:nerislight;font-size:16px;line-height:20px;margin-bottom:19px;text-align:left;"><strong>*</strong></span></p><p style="font-family:nerislight;color:#48484a;font-size:16px;line-height:20px;text-align:left;margin-bottom:19px;display:block;"><span style="color:#48484a;display:block;font-family:nerislight;font-size:16px;line-height:20px;margin-bottom:19px;text-align:left;">A következőkben áttérnék két hosszútávú versenyre: a Le Mans-i 24 órás autóversenyre és a Mille Migliára. A Le Mans-i 24 órás egyike a világ legrégebbi autóversenyének. Először 1923-ban rendezték meg, akkor ez állóképességi nagydíj volt gyári túraautók részére. Ez ma sincsen sokkal másképpen, a 24 órás versenyidő megmaradt, de ma már ide épített versenyautók indulnak több kategóriában. A versenyhez két ikonikus márka párharca is kötődik a hatvanas években, amikor a Fordnak sikerült legyőznie több évben is egymás után a Ferrarit a Ford GT40-es, direkt erre a célra fejlesztett versenyautójával. A verseny egyik legtragikusabb balesete 1955-ben történt, ahol egy Mercedes a nézőtérre vágódva több mint 80 ember halálát okozta, és szinte ugyanennyien megsebesültek a balesetben. Mivel nekik nem volt hasonló kaliberű versenyük hiába voltak ott a nagy neves autógyártóik. Bár sikerült megfejelniük a dolgot úgy, hogy a nagyjából 1600 kilométeres (1000 mérföld) verseny nem versenypályán, hanem közúton halad Bresciától Rómáig és vissza. 1927. március 26-án indult az első verseny, ami nem aratott akkora sikert kezdetben, mint azt várták. De néhány év és némi marketing után hatalmas sikerre tett szert, és olyan nevek fordultak meg ezen a versenyen, mint Tazio Nuvolari vagy maga Enzo Ferrari. Az abszolút csúcsot Sir Stirling Moss és navigátora, Denis Jenkinson tartja, akik 1956-ban legendás 722-es rajtszámú Mercedesükkel 157 km/h-s átlaggal teljesítették az 1600 kilométert, ami mai szemmel nézve is lenyűgöző teljesítmény. A versenyt 1957-ben megszüntették 11 ember halálát okozó baleset miatt. Aztán az első rajt 50. évfordulója emlékére újból megrendezték a versenyt, de ekkortól már csak veterán versenyként, azaz csak az eredeti verseny idején (1927–1957) gyártott autókkal lehet indulni.
